Number Nine Project
Our Number Nine Project focusses on Looked After Children and Young People (LAC) and care leavers aged 14-25. This includes young people who are not attending mainstream education.
The Number Nine Project provides weekly one-to-one music, arts and culture sessions for these young people, up to the age of 25. This work is entirely bespoke to each student, and includes music making sessions, listening sessions, going to concerts, visiting local galleries, sound recording and editing, and attending masterclasses with renowned professionals. All sessions are developed and delivered by professional musicians, artists and academics.
The Number Nine Project includes a twice yearly concert or exhibition, in which students are able to share their work. This includes composing and performing music alongside their mentors and other professional musicians, as well as presenting art pieces, performing poetry, and speaking publicly. These concerts and exhibitions are led by our students, and they are supported to take the lead on the production of the events. In so doing, they practice and acquire vital life skills including time-management, literacy and email communication, and personal organisation.
Through this one-to-one provision and steadfast support, our young people are able to move on with their lives into further study, work, or a blend of the two.
We have bespoke aims for each student we work with, but some examples of key measures of success that we use are:
- 70%+ attendance to sessions.
- The production of at least 1 output per year (e.g. organise their own concert or exhibition).
- The student engages with completing accredited courses, or applications for work or further study.
Nine Voices
As part of the Number Nine Project, we also run an alternative choir called Nine Voices, which meets weekly on Wednesdays from 4 – 5:30pm.
