Kickstart: Development Officer

1 | What is Hand Of?

Hand Of is an arts education charity dedicated to enriching the education of disadvantaged children and young people. We work together with schools, heritage organisations, archival institutions and artists to create immersive projects that connect children with their local history.

We are looking for a Development Officer to join our small but growing charity.

The Development Officer role will focus on developing and delivering a funding strategy for the charity across 2021 and 2022. This strategy will facilitate the charity’s educational work with children and young people in the North East and other parts of the country.

The Development Officer role will include:

  • Maintaining and updating our current database of trusts and foundations.
  • Identifying appropriate trusts and foundations to apply to.
  • Updating and maintaining a timetable for applications throughout the year.
  • Drafting and submitting funding applications to trusts and foundations.
  • Monitoring evaluation processes for any grants received.

The role will also open up opportunities to work with children and young people in creative settings, helping to develop, prepare and deliver workshops together with practicing artists, musicians and theatre practitioners.

2 | Personal Specifications

Previous experience of development/ educational work is not necessary, and Hand Of’s CEOs will provide on-the-job training for the right candidate.

The role would be suitable to anyone who enjoys writing, is keen to learn about arts education and who wants to be part of a small team, close to the action. The role will allow you to see and experience how most aspects of the charity work.

We have just moved into a new office in the centre of Newcastle. Most of our work happens in the office, but we are also well used to flexible working / working from home should this be necessary .
